According to
the Inquirer, Dell UK is shipping new PCs and laptops with Mozilla Firefox instead of the usual Microsoft Internet Explorer. This is, apparently, a trial but if successful it could well spread to ther Dell countries and, I guess, eventually to other PC manufacturers.
It is interesting that some five years after the browser wars were generally agreed to have been definitively won by Microsoft we're seeing significant moves towards Firefox. I think there are two reasons for this: firstly Microsoft, having won the browser war, stopped innovating, and secondly the widespread availability of broadband meant that it was easier to download an alternative that was not so plagued with bugs, popups and spyware. It will be fascinating to see if IE7 is a real improvement since right now IE6 looks bad against Mozilla/Firefox, Opera and Safari (for Macs).
