The above is not a typo. SoonR is a software company offering remote access to your desktop content from your mobile phone.
Now they have made it also possible to use SkypeOut.
All that you need to do is sign on for the free service, then download/install the SoonR software on your PC/laptop to which you want to connect to from a mobile (multiple PCs seem possible too).
To use it you start up the browser on the mobile phone, login to your SoonR account and you can see the directories and files that you made accessible with the SoonR software. If you have Skype installed then you are also ready to go using VoIP from your mobile via your PC/laptop. The way it works is:
- select a person you want to talk or chat to
- SoonR will set up a conference - using Skype - between your desktop/laptop, your mobile phone and the other party(ies)
I just checked it with my laptop connected over a WLAN to the Internet, my mobile phone was using a GPRS link and then I called with SoonR someone in France from Switzerland. The quality was OK, nothing I would use, though, to call someone I was doing business with, but for internal use it is good enough. Maybe it gets better if the laptop has an Ethernet connection and not WLAN. Will try that too. Seems to me something Skype of course could also do and offer themselves, but they are probably working bringing out a mobile client...
