Microsoft has selected Zurich as a new development center for primarily two reasons: One is last year's acquisition of Media Streams, the other the fact that Zurich has big banks like UBS and Credit Suisse (who between them contribute 50% of all the tax income for the city!), with huge software development departments that they hope to tap into. Microsoft is here just following Google who has already some time ago opened a development center for the exact same reason.
